In this course, Brandon Patrick George walks us through C.P.E. Bach’s Flute Sonata in A minor. This unique work presents interpretive and technical challenges, which George addresses by guiding us on how to practice and approach the late 18th-century style.
I. Poco adagio
The Poco Adagio movement of this sonata is filled with character and contrast. Brandon Patrick George guides us through each measure, ensuring that we fully consider the storm and strife characteristic of music from this period. His interpretation and exercises for large intervals will deepen our understanding of this movement.
II. Allegro
In the Allegro movement, Brandon Patrick George suggests ways to create contrast and bring this fast movement to life. He draws on interpretive trends of the period and provides useful exercises for tricky technical passages.
III. Allegro
