Syrinx

In this course, Carol Wincenc takes us through Debussy’s incredible work for solo flute, Syrinx. She explores breath, tone colors, the structure of the piece, and how to create resonance within this influential work.

Breathing

Carol Wincenc guides us through a breath exercise to help expand the amount of air we can use to ensure the most dynamic performance possible. She explains the “Hawaii” and “Almighty” breaths and how to use them to enhance your flute playing.

Grace Notes and Trills

In this lesson, Carol Wincenc talks about the importance of grace notes and trills in Debussy’s Syrinx. She gives us tips on how to most effectively produce these ornaments.

Crafting a Diminuendo

As Syrinx is full of diminuendos, Carol Wincenc shows us how to craft beautiful decrescendos starting from the very first phrase. Wincenc suggests optimal head and embouchure motions to ensure a comfortable and effective diminuendo.
