Course Syllabus

Introduction

Lorna McGhee guides us through the foundation of flute-playing. She talks about how to organize the body in an optimal way for a resonant sound and freedom of the breath.

Semi-Supine Guided Exercise

Lorna McGhee guides us through a semi-supine exercises that she personally uses in her practice and before her performances. This exercise lengthens the spine, calms the nervous system, and sets us up for success.

Body Awareness While Standing

Lorna McGhee talks about the organization of the body as we stand and play. She guides us through how the entire body should be set up for efficient and effective flute-playing.

Body Organization in Flute Practice

In this lesson, Lorna McGhee shows us how we can incorporate this new-found body awareness into our everyday flute practice.

Seated Body Scan

In this lesson, Lorna McGhee guides us through a seated body scan. This can be used while practicing, in rehearsals, or any time we need to be effective and organized in our body while seated.

Lorna McGhee

Lorna McGhee is a Scottish flutist and teacher, currently serving as Principal Flute of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra since 2012. In addition, she is an Artist Lecturer in Flute at Carnegie Mellon University.
