Course Syllabus

I. Heiter bewegt

Mark Sparks expertly speaks about this wonderful sonata, the challenges it poses to flutists and how to overcome them. He offers exercises and practice strategies to overcome these challenges.

II. Sehr langsam

In this lesson, Mark Sparks walks us through the gorgeous second movement. He discusses tone colors, breathing, interpretation, and so much more.

III. Sehr lebhaft – IV. Marsch

In this lesson, Mark Sparks speaks about the two contrasting sections this movement contains, the scherzo section and the march. He walks us through both of these sections as we learn about air speed, articulation, and how to use them effectively to create the distinct characters Hindemith portrays on the page.
