Introduction

In this lesson, Paula Robison speaks about the composer Charles-Marie Widor. She references his organ music, his personality, and how we can use this information to inform our interpretation of his Suite for Flute and Piano.

I. Moderato

In this lesson, Paula Robison walks us through the challenges we face in this piece and the imagery we can use to help our artistic interpretation of this wonderful first movement.

II. Scherzo

In this lesson, we learn how to effectively convey the Scherzo nature of this second movement. Paula Robison walks us through practice suggestions and artistic ideas that will bring this movement to life.

III. Romance

In this lesson, Paula Robison conveys the romance in the music. She provides guidance and practice strategies to a beautiful performance of this lyrical movement.

IV. Final

Paula Robison and Deborah Emery talk us through this exciting final movement discussing imaginative and creative imagery to guide our interpretation. They discuss the role of the flute and the piano and how to balance the two parts beautifully.
