Introduction

Choi recounts how much effort this piece took her to learn in her teens, but adds that the growth it stimulated was tremendous.

I. Allegretto

The opening odd meters present challenges, as do the rapid grace notes. Choi discusses the elements that can make this movement beautiful, from how to count the opening bars to what kind of vibrato to use.

II. Andante

In her lesson on the second movement, Choi draws attention to its distinct tone color, the long climactic build-up, and what this movement has in common with Debussy.

III. Animé

Full of captivating rhythms and a dazzling cadenza, the third movement provides opportunities to stretch your capabilities as a flutist.
